Lyrics In Print: ABC, PART TWO!

November 30, 2008

Coming back to the ABC lyrics from yesterday, I decided to think more about the line: "If you judge a book by the cover / Then you'd judge the look by the lover."

Fun!

Maybe some of our college graduates (who studied logic) can correct me if I'm off a bit, but here's what I think is going on: I decided it's actually not much of a logic problem. It's actually illogical.

The line is: if you judge "object 1" by "impression of object 1" then you'll judge the "impression of object 2" by the "object 2"

Assuming "the look" refers to "your first impression of the lover," or "the exterior of the lover that gives you an impression," the logical version of the line would be: "If you judge a book by the cover, then you'd judge the lover by the look".

Unfortunately, this line doesn't sound nor sing very well, so ABC changed the wording. Artistic license, I guess.

Just like "Are we human, or are we dancer."

Or even "Isn't it ironic...like ray-yee-yain on your wedding day."

It doesn't have to make sense! I forgot to mention: even though this song is ridiculous and illogical, I still love it, HAHAHA!
