HOW TO: BE A CELEBRITY HOTEL GUEST

October 29, 2008

As we saw in artist Sarah Baker's video "In the Spirit of Glorious Excess, 9/13/08", you don't have to be a celebrity to be treated like one. In fact, I've found that it's pretty easy to get hotel staff to treat you like you're "someone" even if they have absolutely no idea who you are. Here are a couple ways you can get the people at the hotel to give you more love than usual:

1) Have your manager make your reservation. You or a friend can pretend to be the manager, and call the hotel to book your room. Pick an occupation, and run with it. Example: "My client, a high profile actor/comedian/musician, has asked me to book a room at your hotel." Don't tell them you're performing in town, though--they'll ask for tickets.

2) Stay under a fake name. When you make the reservation, let the people at the front desk know that you "can't possibly give them your real name, for reasons or personal safety and privacy." Make up a fake name for yourself, and be that person during your entire stay. Be as ridiculous as you like. It could be a lot of fun to have room service address you as "Mr. Robert DeNiro" for a week. Or "Mr. Snuffelupagus."

3.) Dress the part. Go incognito. Come in with a hood up, sunglasses on. Especially if it's night time. The more you try to hide your face, the more they will assume you do it because you have to.

4.) Be consistent. A big-time celeb would probably have their "people" make all their reservations, right? Again, have your "manager" character call for any spa, golf, or restaurant reservations. And when getting a reservation at a restaurant, especially one with a view, make sure to ask for "a nice, quiet table where your client won't be bothered." That will definitely get them to give you one of the best seats in the house.

Although I definitely don't recommend you do this all the time, it's definitely fun to try out once and a while, just to keep life interesting. Definitely don't do it to be mean or to trick people in a bad way, but if they're excited because you're a celebrity, and you're excited because you're getting the star treatment, everybody wins! Let me know if anyone asks for your autograph.

LOL, that's good :) I wonder if that also works when hotel rooms are blocked... Whatever, it could be worth trying anyway and most definitely it would be lots of fun. My experience (I won't go into detail right here...) shows: as long as one knows how to behave the right way one gets very far...and probably gets things turned out the desired way...

You're promoting lying and deception? tsk, tsk.

I honestly don't think I could do anything like this and feel good about myself. I'd rather live like a measly pauper than live it up for a few hours and then have a guilty conscience.

Besides, being from PA, I could never get away with it around here. Who's ever heard of a celebrity relishing in the high-life Pennsylvania offers? ha!

sounds like fun, sadly in my country it wont work seeing you have to give your ID and every ID of the people staying with you, so unless they know nothing about the media world, it can't be done Oo"...

But I did thought of another way to get treated like a celebrity :P, you can make your friends (guys) wear sunglasses, and have their phone head set in the ear, acting like body guards in a mall or some place like that, while you can dress like a celebrity trying to blend in, then let some other of your friends, come running to you screaming your name while the body guards try to stop them :D... might work :P , oh and add some camera's to make it look all real :P. lol

Thanks for fun) And one question I noticed that Cypress Hill recorded a song called amplified on a CD under the headline "Stoned Raiders advance", but you know I was kinda suprised because I've heard only about amplified on Stoned raiders (cd) by Cypress Hill. And the question is did they record the album mentioned or not? And have you heard about Valley of Chrome by Cypress Hill?

Ohh man I did that once! But it wasn't my idea and I didn't even know it was happening!
Me and my brother were trying to get into the new James Bond film (Casino Royale) the day after it was released and they said that the only seats they had were really shit (well they didn't say that but yeah)
So I went to call my mum to tell her we were coming back and, unbeknownst to me,my brother had told the girl how I was a "very important child actor and I really wanted to see the film" and they gave us seats right in the middle!!!
When he told me how he did it I found it so funny, but I was a bit guilty...
I had to act all important for the rest of the day
    Great post

Hey Mike, Great idea! one question though how do you pay for your stay at the hotel when you try this? because when you call the hotel thats going to be one of the first questions they are going to ask. If you could answer my question that would be awesome
