  • CSI: LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST

    October 18, 2008 99 Comments

Really random note: our current and final single from Minutes To Midnight, "Leave Out All The Rest," is going to be the theme of November 6th's episode of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (9PM PT on CBS). The episode opens and closes with –- and is named after –- the song. Elements of the song are used throughout the episode to underline and score the building story of Gil Grissom and his unresolved love for Sara Sidle who recently left the crime lab. Never before has a television series built the score of an episode around a rock radio single.

  • World Record Attempt For Smashing Coconuts

This was on live television overseas. Perhaps the guy should've practiced first...or at least learned some martial arts.

  • Kindle Pt.2, Lego Yankee Stadium

October 2, 2008 By SECRET ASIAN MAN 29 Comments

First, another note about the Kindle: Although it doesn't read Word documents, it reads email and PDF. They give you a special email address to send things to your Kindle, so if you've got something that you want to read on it, just copy and paste it into an email, and send away. I agree about the design; it's not the most attractive gadget out there. However, if you find yourself having to lug around a lot of books, this thing can be a lifesaver.

Second, a post from our new correspondent:

    dear hertz car rentals,

i looked into renting a car for four days, and got a list of responses back about your pricing.

REGULAR CARS: Mid Size $245.00, Compact $233.00

    GREEN COLLECTION: Prius $754.69

charging 3 times the price of a standard mid-size for a prius? come on. we're not saving $500 on gas. it's not a luxury car. it's also not a Lotus, which is almost in the same price range. you guys have tens of thousands of cars on the road pumping CO2 out every day.

"making it available" is not enough to show you care. you also have to make it accessible.

  • tim ferriss - the 4 hour work week

i really enjoyed the talk with tim...hope you guys did as well. sorry the audio is taking so long to get. i don't know if it's going to happen; the blogworld people haven't seemed really keen on giving the audio out.

incidentally, tim's book "the four hour work week" was a great read. if you want to learn about ways to cut down your work hours, cut out the unimportant things in your life, still make great money, and use the time you save to pursue the dreams you wish you had more time for, i recommend his book.

for those interested in buying it, do so here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0307353133/mikeshinoda-20

PS: i'll give you a little tidbit about the book...the idea of the "new rich" has less to do with obtaining things and money, and more to do with bettering yourself, enjoying life, and doing things that will make a positive impact on the world, while minimizing all the less important nonsense we all get ourselves caught up in (particularly wasting time for the sake of filling work hours). i hope that doesn't sound preachy...it doesn't come off that way in the book!

New Ebay auction for a 24k gold 16 gig iPhone. Starting bid is $1000. Winner will be king of the block until Apple releases the 32 gig version. Then they'll just be the fool who bought this one.

EDIT: firstly, upon further examination, i'm pretty sure this gold iPhone is bogus. it appears to be a photoshopped 1st-generation iPhone. secondly...the gold iPhone has been outdone by an LP fan: IIIIANGEL911IIII's phone:
