  • Fan Responses...and NEW DIVIDE SINGLE

Posted by lpfmfan: Mike, please get Twitter. :P Or at least tell Rob to get it. xD

M: I'm not getting a Twitter account. You guys can have fun with Chester; I feel more comfortable with fewer posts. This blog works well for me...

Posted by Xefuzion, "NEW DIVIDE FAN VERSION" - My video on the other hand got marked and deleted by warner music group (I don't even think WMG is allowed to do this). Also, I'm not a "they" , i did it myself with Reason 4 and a Ibanez guitar :) .

M: Glad you came here to post; good job on the music. You guys know, our band has nothing to do with those "cease and desist" notes. Sometimes WMG's intentions are good, sometimes I don't agree with them. This example is probably a little more of the latter variety. I think your fan version is great, especially if it's clearly marked as a "fan remix / not official." Next time, if you put that on the page or file, maybe they'll leave you alone.

RE: NU METAL Posted by B_Keppy: Mike, its just another example of people trying to label something they don't understand or can't get their head around.

Posted by kavana: I think Linkin Park itself is a genre now, LOL

Posted by Neem: That's the magic of LP- they've evolved through the years and tapped different facets of this wonderful phenomemon called music, enriching their repertoire. Mike does have a point, it's vexing to be pigeon-holed when you have diverse interests.

M: I was cracking up when I made that post, and when I read the comments :) In case you're living in a cave, "nu" metal isn't exactly "nu" any more. Hybrid Theory was a nu metal album. That was 2001. BTW, the best comment under that post was:

    M4LL0RY: "You're so 2004...PWNT."

    LOL!

  • New Divide Fan version

    May 14, 2009 23 Comments

I have never seen anything like this...A fan has taken the short snippets of "New Divide" from the 30 second promo clip...and made an entire instrumental song out of it, to guesstimate what the song might sound like!

For anyone that was told this is "the demo" of the song...it's not. But it is a nice piece of "fan music!"

Even though I don't think "New Divide" actually sounds much like their song, I love the energy they put into it. Incidentally, the same fan / youtube user posted our actual promo video as well (below).

PS - the video went well today. Good job, Mr. Hahn.

On my continuing quest to rummage through our page on http://mikeshinoda.uservoice.com/pages/general and find the best music to recommend to you...here are three more MIKESHINODA.COM RECOMMENDED ARTISTS. By the way, if you like what they're doing, go to their sites and let them know!

SoyuNeik posts on mikeshinoda.com all the time...when I first checked this page out, I remember thinking, "I didn't know she had beats like THIS!" Her tracks are GREAT. I'd love to hear some of the vocalists from my site team up with her to make some good stuff together.

I don't know how to describe Johnny Berlin's music. Really unique vocal harmonies, cool keyboards, good indie rock vibe "from Sin City, Limburg, Belgium." http://www.myspace.com/johnnyberlinmusic

I said that you should only post stuff if you're a musician. Elliot-aka-MC-Eli found a loophole in my rules (being a musician himself, but not posting his own music, ha!) and posted this for his brother. Kodiak Like The Bear is a California based, unsigned quartet who lists their influences as "Keith Sweat vs. Glassjaw vs. Prince vs. ??" I think if you like Thrice, Taking Back Sunday, Deftones, The Cure, My Chem, Silversun Pickups, The Used...you get the point. Go check them out. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=213967436

EDIT: I fixed a couple mistakes on this page. Johnny Berlin is from Belgium (please excuse my typo), and Kodiak Like The Bear's link is fixed.

Here's another great batch of MIKESHINODA.COM FEATURED ARTISTS I hand-picked over the past few days. As you know, I asked viewers here to post links to their music at http://mikeshinoda.uservoice.com/, and you guys have been taking a look and voting. Keep it up!

Regardless of how the voting goes, here is another batch of new artists that caught my ear...

The News - Indie rock from Tel Aviv. Really awesome vibe, definitely a band to check out. I like their style. http://www.myspace.com/hadashot

Canadian Rapper FLEX is doing his thing. He kills classic-sounding hip hop tracks in the vein of DJ Premier, No I.D., and Jay Dee...Plus he has a dope track over our Kutmasta Kurt remix of "In The End." I'm into it. http://www.myspace.com/pflex905?

CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT. You may recognize this Finnish metal band, (formerly named Thrust Moment) from drummer JP Kaukonen's posts here on mikeshinoda.com. We had an awesome public conversation here and on linkinpark.com a few months ago, and the band has signed a worldwide deal with Sumerian Records. Check out their new site and music here: http://www.myspace.com/circleofcontempt

I'll keep checking out the links, so keep posting and keep putting up you bands' info.

  • Promote Yourself, Part 3

It wasn't that long ago that I was in an unsigned band doing shows at bars.

Getting back "on-topic," I want to keep encouraging you guys to check out the great music on http://mikeshinoda.uservoice.com/. A ton of votes have already been cast, so I'm excited to see that you guys are getting involved. I'm planning to regularly feature new artists here on mikeshinoda.com, so keep posting new music, and keep voting.

If you make music and you haven't put your stuff up yet, get it together, and post it there (at the link above). I will continue to look at that page to see what's new, and see how the voting is going. Make sure to tell your friends--link to mikeshinoda.com from your websites and encourage people to check it out and vote.

If you don't have a band, keep listening and voting. These artists benefit from your feedback, and by getting involved, you're helping them build a fanbase...besides, you'll definitely get turned on to some incredible new music.

Shouts out to SELA, CHRIS CONNOR, and PANIK MUSIC for being the first "Featured Artists" here at mikeshinoda.com.
