What's New?

  • Google: New Music Search Function

Looks like it's conference week for me (ha). Today, Google announced their new music search function, and I was invited to speak on a panel regarding the new function, what it means for the fan (like us) who wants to find and purchase new music. I met and spoke with a handful of really smart, really fun peeps (shouts out to Bill, Courtney, Ali, RJ and all the awesome Google staff).

What I think most of you will be interested to know is that Google is rolling this function out in the U.S. right now. When you search for new music, you will immediately see a few options of songs to play, plus links to the artists tour dates and purchase options. Knowing how much we all hate clicking on a dozen things to get to the place we want, this is a welcome improvement (now all I need to do is finally get our tech department to do the same with our linkinpark.com, LPU, and LPN login).

Here's the info from their blog, and a picture from the event. Keep an eye out online, as there will be some performances--including one by Dead By Sunrise.

PS: Ironic that Mos Def was on the panel, since I just posted his BET performance:

EDIT: I almost forgot...HUGE thank you to OneRepublic for letting me eat some of their In N Out burgers. Seriously. A life saver.

  • 140 Characters Twitter Conference?

    October 27, 2009 52 Comments

It may be the best invitation I've ever received: I've been asked to speak at the "140 Character Conference," a public conference all about TWITTER!

The conference is today. According to their site http://140conf.com/, the conference is about "the effects of real-time internet on business." I can speak on that; maybe they just want to hear my take. Then again, maybe there's another, clandestine plot brewing. Maybe they want to brainwash or convert me. Or maybe Phoenix is planning to assassinate me.

Screw it. I'll be attending, some time around 4pm. And just in case, maybe I should find myself some stylish bulletproof attire.

Look for tweets about it...and spell my name right, fools: #m_shinoda

At the show, some of you may have noticed the crazy Honda roadster on display with the hand-painted "additions" in pink...that bike was donated courtesy of one of the show sponsors, Honda. The motorcycle is actually being auctioned off for charity (JANM) this week. The bids started at $18K US, and ends in 5 days. If you want to buy a motorcycle designed and hand-customized by me, now is the chance. (I even signed it in hot pink Krink)

    Here's where to bid:

  • Shinoda+Metric Remix: GOLD GUNS GIRLS

    August 30, 2009 63 Comments

Thanks to everyone who came out for last night's Glorious Excess (Dies) opening; images of everything are on the way today.

In the preview video for GLXS, some of you noticed a song by Metric in there. I mentioned the band Metric a long time ago...http://www.mikeshinoda.com/comments/recommended_music-music_business/metric_talks_about_self_releasing_album...and some of you know I like their music. Their album "Fantasies" contains a song called "Gold Guns Girls." When I first heard it, I thought: this is like a theme song for Glorious Excess!

Well, I contacted the band, and (to make a long story short) I remixed the song. With their blessing, it's now on the "music" page here on mikeshinoda.com http://www.mikeshinoda.com/music

If you like this song, check the band out at http://www.ilovemetric.com/. The band will be making the song available to fans soon...but you're getting the exclusive here first!
